The holiday season is officially here!  And with it comes high hopes, anticipation, reminiscence, and even some hesitations.  Some might even say trepidation.  It’s been a rough year for many, to say the least.

This year, instead of the holidays bringing up feelings of loss, I choose to remember my family through recipes, stories, and nostalgia.

Piazza del Popolo Ascoli Piceno

I have decided to embrace the pain, pull out my favorite family recipes from my great-grandmother, grandmother and grandfather (he loved to cook), aunts, and of course, my mother.

A brief history of some of the recipes

I am 2nd generation American. My maternal grandparents were both 100% Italian.  My grandfather was born in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, and came to America when he was young.  He fought for us in WWII (and against Mussolini, as my grandpa would say).

When they came over from Italy, their families brought with them many recipes that had been handed down over generations.  This collection includes these, as well as a mixture of other family favorites. Some have been altered for ease, to avoid making everything from scratch. But I promise the flavor is still there!

So now I am on a quest to make family recipes throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and share them with you, to hopefully bring you and your family a little more comfort and joy this season.  I hope you enjoy these Recipes from My Family as much as we have.

If you get the notion to try any of these, please let me know if you enjoyed them as much as my family.

As my grandmother would say, “Manga, Manga!”
